After touch down in Bologna airport make the journey to your hotel to check in. Don’t waste any time before you enjoy a delicious meal in the foodie capital of Italy. We recommend trying the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, the delicious ragu sauce originates from Bologna and is served with slow-cooked beef and tagliatelle pasta.

Nicked named La Grassa (The Fat), Bologna is renowned for being heaven for those who love good food. Take a trip to the Quadrilatero Medieval Market to discover some of the tasty treats on offer before stocking up on local favourites to take home. As well as the ancient food stalls the Quadrilatero Market is home to small boutiques and jewellers selling locally produced trinkets.

For more of an exhilarating afternoon take a trip to the Ferrari Museum, located roughly 50minutes from Bologna centre the journey is worth the experience. Showcasing an array of the famous ‘Prancing Horse’ supercars in the large futuristic hall, the museum provides a thrilling insight into the automotive history of Ferrari.

Points of Interest

There is lots more to discover in Bologna besides delicious food. The Bologna University may not seem a likely attraction but its large historic buildings and interesting museums makes it popular with tourists. Also it was the first university ever to open in the world!

One of the most iconic sights in the city is the Two Towers, built in the 12th Century these monuments still stand strong today, unlike the majority of the other 200 towers which once lined the streets. The towers are amazing to admire with your feet firmly on the ground, but for those with more energy climbing the 500 steps to the top provides staggering views across the terracotta rooftops.

The Tuscan region has plenty to offer hence and is a favourite for visitors, staying in the Tuscan countryside sets you in the heart of the area famous for its food and wine. The region is dotted with vineyards and its rolling hills and warm climate makes for the perfect place to produce wine. Waste no time in savouring a glass of the finest red, Chianti or Montepulciano, a crisp white. We recommend wine tasting at a local winery to experience the full process of the wine production before tasting the finished product accompanied by the ‘Larda di Colonnata’, a selection of Tuscan cured meats.

Today, take a drive to Siena to explore the Piazza del Campo, the medieval square is lined with cafes and restaurants to relax in whilst enjoying the lively atmosphere. To admire the stunning panoramic views of Siena set yourself the challenge to walk up the steps of the Torre del Mangia tower.

Another conveniently located site is Siena’s Cathedral, also in the Piazza del Campo. The Duomo di Siena is a medieval cathedral filled with artistic gems from Pinturicchio and Michelangelo.

Famous for the Leaning Tower, Pisa has an array of museums, piazzas and restaurants also waiting to be explored. Wander through the manicured botanical gardens or meander through the narrow streets to feel at home with the locals - but don’t leave without a photo in front of the Leaning Tower itself.
