Coronavirus (CoVID-19) travel information

Updated: 22 April 2020

Please note: due to the new travel restrictions and FCO advice put in place regarding international travel, we will be contacting those with bookings that are due to depart on a rolling seven day basis with alternative options.

We will be contacting you on a rolling 7 days period prior to your departure date.

If you have booked your holiday through a TUI branch which you cannot currently contact, and you are travelling in the next 7 days, please call the team at Citalia on 01293 839109, who will be able to assist you in these extraordinary circumstances.

Please DO NOT CALL if your booking is more than 7 days away from departure.

We thank you for your continued patience at this time as we work through this unprecedented situation and ask that you please bear with us.

We at Citalia recognise the increased uncertainty that the ongoing outbreak of Coronavirus (more specifically Covid-19) may be causing in the planning of your holiday with us, especially in regards to the safety of travelling at this time.

We would like to reassure you that we continue to closely monitor this situation as it rapidly evolves, and we will be keeping this page updated on our approach.

The details below explain how we are operating in the current situation, ensuring, as ever, that your health, safety and wellbeing comes first.

Please be assured that, as per official advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), supplemented with information from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), as well as the up-to-the-minute local knowledge we have from our robust team of Ground Operators in resort, and the countries local governments themselves, the trips and destinations we are offering at this time are safe to visit and we will do everything we can to ensure that you have the holiday of a lifetime.

Our approach

The FCO advice has changed for all of Italy, can I cancel my holiday?

  • As of 9th March 2020 the FCO has changed its travel advice for Italy and now advises against all but essential travel. Our Operations team are in the process of contacting our customers who are due to travel within the next 7 days, and we are contacting customers currently in Italy to arrange for them to travel back to the UK. We thank you for your patience in these unprecedented circumstances.
  • Where the FCO make changes to advice, and there is no end date to these restrictions we will work within ABTA guidelines and amend/cancel holidays with imminent travel – this currently includes travel within the next 7 days. If travel is further ahead than 7 days our normal Terms and Conditions will apply.

What will happen if my Italian holiday, booked for later this year, can’t go ahead because a hotel or town/resort are in lock down?

  • We will keep you fully informed of the developments that we receive from the FCO and other sources, making sure you are aware of key dates which may be relevant to decisions about your trip – those departing in the next seven days will be given priority.

What happens if the Foreign and Commonwealth Office doesn’t specifically advise against travelling to a country?

If there is no advice against travel to the destination that you have booked, the holidays will be provided as planned and normal booking conditions apply but please be assured that we will be closely monitoring the situation and should the official advice change, we will contact you as soon as possible.

However, please note that some countries have entry restrictions in place for travellers who are either arriving directly from countries where there have been major coronavirus outbreaks, or have visited them within the past 14 days.

Due to the ever changing situations, bookings that are affected in this way will be contacted 7 days prior to travel. Your Destination Specialist will work with you if your holiday plans are affected.

What happens if the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against all but essential travel to a country?

  • If you are due to travel imminently, our team of Italy experts will discuss alternative options with you.
  • We will keep you fully informed of the developments that we receive from the FCO and other sources, making sure you are aware of key dates which may be relevant to decisions about your trip – those departing in the next seven days will be given priority.
