Getting Married in Italy: FAQ
We offer civil ceremony weddings in Rome and Sorrento for 2009. We can also arrange weddings at the following locations near Sorrento: Piano di Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Positano and Ravello.
In Rome the weddings take place at 'the Campidoglio' (Rome's town hall) or at a 13th Century Villa called 'Vignola Mattei'.
In Sorrento the marriage ceremonies take place in Cloisters of San Francesco an open-air courtyard.

We offer a standard wedding package, which includes the following elements of your wedding:
- The services of a personal wedding planner prior to and for the length of your stay
- Meeting with your wedding planner upon arrival
- Collection and attendance of your wedding planner to obtain your marriage certificate
- Certificate from the Town Hall and all town hall fees
- Fees for the wedding license and UK consular fees
- Organisation and renting of the ceremony venue
- Posy for the bride and buttonhole for the groom
- A translator for the ceremony
- A small gift for the couple upon arrival
Any extras that you would want to book to enhance your special day. This would include flowers, photographer, make up, music to accompany the ceremony and a reception. These can all be organised by your wedding planner in Italy.
The cost will differ depending on the time of day and where in Italy you are getting married but prices for 2009 start from £1119 per couple.
You will book the wedding package with one of our expert travel advisors. Once the booking is confirmed, you will be given the contact details of a dedicated wedding planner in resort, with whom you can liaise with to organise all the elements of your wedding - from flowers to the evening reception.
We recommend you book your holiday and the wedding ceremony no later than 12 weeks prior to departure. This will then give us enough time to organise all the necessary legal documentation for you.
An amount of £150 needs to taken at the time of booking for the wedding ceremony; this will be in addition to the deposit required for the holiday. Balance is due 10 weeks prior to departure.
The bride must travel under her maiden name for the entirety of the journey because the name on the flight ticket MUST be the same as their passport. Once the clients have returned home they will then be able to change the name on their passport.
Yes, you can renew your vows in the beautiful locations of Sorrento, Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Capri and Rome. The renewal of vows are not legally binding so the only information you will be required to provide us with will be the details of your original wedding, including dates, names, and location.
Yes, we can book you a short break so you can visit/inspect the area you have chosen for your wedding. Civil ceremony venues in Italy are open to the public so you will be able to visit the place where you will be exchanging your vows.
Your wedding planner will be very happy to meet you, and guide you through all the processes of getting married in Italy and all the details of your big day, face to face.
THE WEDDING CEREMONY / RECEPTION
In Sorrento, civil weddings can be performed Monday to Friday between the hours of 10.00 and 13.00 and on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 15.30 - 17.30. For out of hour ceremonies (subject to availability) at the town hall, there is a supplement of £300 euros.
In Rome, civil weddings can be performed: Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 11.00 - 12.00 - 13.00 and Tuesday/Thursday: 11.00 - 12.00 - 13.00, 15.30 - 16.30 - 17.30
Unfortunately weddings cannot take place in any of our hotels, but many of our hotels would be very happy to accommodate a private dinner, or reception after the ceremony.
The ceremony will be conduced by a local registrar, and you will be required to have at least 2 witnesses attend during the ceremony. The witnesses can travel out as friends/family but if this is not possible it is fine for the couple to ask someone in Italy to be a witness once they arrive.
Witnesses can be provided at a charge.
Yes, the wedding co-ordinator will translate the ceremony for you. The ceremony lasts approximately 20 minutes.
If you choose to wear traditional bride/groom wear or just smart wear, we suggest lightweight fabric to avoid getting too hot in the warm sunny climates of Italy (especially in high season).
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
You will be required to send the following documentation to us no later than 12 weeks prior to departure.
Documentation required:
- Non-impediment for the bride and groom (obtained from the local registrar)
- Full birth certificate of the bride and groom
- Photocopy of both valid passports
- Photocopy of valid passports for two witnesses
- If divorced - degree absolute and original marriage certificate
- If adopted -Adoption certificate
- If widowed - death certificate of former spouse and original marriage certificate
- If name changed by deed poll - original documentation

Yes, couples getting married in Italy must be over the age of 18 years.
There is a minimum residency requirement of 4 working days prior to the wedding. Your wedding planner will contact you on your first day in Italy, to meet up to discuss all your requirements.
Yes, your wedding will be legal in accordance with British Law and will be registered in the country in which the wedding took place (Italy). Customers will receive full documentation including their wedding certificate before they leave Italy.
Your wedding (date and time) can be provisionally booked, but please note if you are confirming your wedding before the start of the year our local wedding planners can only confirm the dates/time with the venue at the start of the season in January. (Please be aware this procedure is standard for all civil weddings in Italy).
THE HOLIDAY / ACCOMMODATION
We can book you into any hotel you want to stay in, (subject to room availability and the size of the party). If you want a reception to take place in your hotel, your wedding planner can confirm and arrange this. We can provide a list of hotels, that are happy to host wedding receptions. Most hotels will prefer lunchtime/early afternoon receptions.
Subject to room availability and an additional surcharge we can arrange this for the bride and groom. We suggest booking earlier to ensure you get the room upgrade you are looking for.
Yes, we can arrange all your transport and accommodation for your honeymoon in Italy.
There is no limit to the number of guests you can have join you on your wedding day, the only restriction would be ensuring there is enough hotel rooms available for the whole group. Our expert travel advisor will be able to advice you of suitable hotels for you and your guests.
THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Yes, any extras can be added on to your package at an additional cost. The following are types of extras that are available

- Beautician; make up, manicure, pedicure etc
- Wedding Car
- Horse and Carriage
- Mini Buses
- Favours for the guests
- A musician during the ceremony (a harp during the ceremony can be arranged at a supplement)
Your wedding planner can arrange all these elements for you.
The company we use is a professional photographic business. The couple will receive 40 photographs in a leather album and they also receive all their negatives on a CD so they can have re-prints done in the UK for no extra charge.
Yes, this can be arranged with your dedicated wedding planner.
Your wedding outfits should be packed/boxed up securely in a suitcase or any other suitable luggage carrier and will be placed in the hold of the aircraft. Carrying on your wedding outfits is at the discretion of the airline carrier.
