Palermo & Mazara Del Vallo Holidays

Sample a sumptuous mix of Sicilian cultures and cuisine with a multi-centre break in Palermo and Mazara Del Vallo, a vibrant port that is home to the largest fishing fleet in Italy.

Palermo, Sicily’s once turbulent capital, infamous for gangsters and The Godfather has transformed into a cultural hot spot, packed with interesting galleries and museums, chic nightlife, and blessed with its own unique blend of architectural styles, from Byzantine to Baroque. In this city of contrasts you will find yourself wandering from upscale boutiques to vibrant markets, from unique Arab-Norman Churches to the Museo Archeologico Regionale, with important Phoenician, Greek and Roman artworks.

Mazara Del Vallo flourished under Arab rule, and the old town, known as the ‘Kasbah’ evokes this rich heritage, in its moorish architecture, diverse population and cuisine infused with Arabic flavours. The port recently made headlines when the ‘Dancing Satyr’; an ancient bronze statue was discovered by a local fishing boat, and this Greek monument is well worth a visit. The town centre is a monument to Norman Architecture itself, littered with churches and The Norman Arc, the remains of a medieval castle built in 1073.
