About Imperial Hotel Tramontano

The Imperial Hotel Tramontano enjoys a wonderful central location poised on the cliff between Marina Piccola and Marina Grande with a view of Marina Piccola. This ensures the hotel has some of the most impressive views over the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

Citalia is proud of its long association with this popular and traditional hotel, which has consistently provided a friendly and efficient service for its guests, many of whom return year after year.

Hidden from the main street, the Imperial Hotel Tramontano is situated in a beautiful courtyard garden, setting the scene for a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

Guestrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished, and the hotel's elegant lounge bar Quattro Stagioni, decorated with period furniture and an original mosaic, is bordered by a terrace looking out over the bay - a perfect spot for enjoying a pre-dinner drink whilst watching one of Sorrento's vivid sunsets. The adjacent Restaurant Don Alfonso, where you may choose to dine in the evening (payable locally), continues those magnificent views of the coastline.

The swimming pool is enclosed by lush, sub-tropical gardens featuring a summer bar, relaxing terraces and quiet corners for reading and relaxation. A complimentary lift takes you to the seafront and entrance to the bathing platform Spiaggia Leonelli (normally in use mid May-end Sep). Deckchairs and parasols can be hired on the bathing platform (payable locally).

Throughout its long history as a private mansion and hotel, many great writers, poets and artists have been welcomed at the Imperial Hotel Tramontano. Legend has it that Milton visited during his travels and it was also graced by the writers Goethe, Byron, Scott, Keats and Shelley. The West Wing is the historical birthplace of the famous Italian poet, Torquato Tasso and where De Curtis composed the song Return to Sorrento on one of the hotel's terraces. A plaque to the left of reception confirms this.

Steeped in history, the Imperial Hotel Tramontano is also host to the lavishly frescoed 16th century Stella Maris Chapel, carefully restored in 1890, accessed from the hotel's courtyard.

For the ultimate in luxury, why not book an excursion on the hotel's very own 36ft (11m) Sorrentine Gozzo motorboat (May-Sep) and discover some enchanting caves, hidden beaches and dive into some of the most azure parts of the Mediterranean.

An ideal location all year round, the hotel is only a 5 minute walk from Piazza Tasso, brimming with its boutiques, bars and restaurants, and a 10 minute stroll from the charming Marina Grande harbour that is home to some colourful fishing boats and characteristic fish restaurants.

Due to the hotel's popularity, early booking is highly recommended.
