It is said that the translucent quality of Lake Maggiore's water is from the teardrops of unrequited lovers and romantic poets. Much appreciated by Byron and Shelley, a temperate microclimate made this region a preferred hideaway for 19th century aristocrats who built palatial villas with landscaped gardens on its pristine shoreline and panoramic hills.STRESA
Palm-lined esplanades are decorated with magnolia and overlook the Borromean Islands, reposing on a sleepy stretch of water reached by steamer. Isola Bella dominates these small, verdant retreats, which house a magnificent palazzo surrounded by lush, floral gardens with fountains, peacocks, classical statuary and secretive grottos.
PALLANZA
Lake steamers take avid gardeners to Pallanza to enjoy its celebrated cuisine before visiting the Villa Taranto to marvel at over 20,000 exotic plants set in 50 spetacular acres.
CANNERO RIVIERA
At the foot of Mount Carza and affording leisurely walks to stunning wooded hills and flower-drenched gardens surrounding priveledged palazzi.
