Day 2 : Verona

Verona was the centre of art and commerce during the Roman Empire, which spawned the magnificent 1st century amphitheatre that lies almost untouched at the city's core, and no trip here would be complete without experiencing the moving atmosphere of an Italian opera. With near perfect acoustics, Europe's best-loved opera festival is staged here in the summer, pre-book tickets for an unforgettable experience as music echoes around the theatre's ancient walls. The surrounding Piazza Bra is great for a spot of people-watching, plus there are plenty of historical sights within easy reach.

During your stay, enjoy the peaceful lake vistas and hop along the lake’s edge to the many picture-perfect towns found here. Some of the best include Sirmione, with its bustling lanes and thermal springs, and Malcesine, nestled at the foot of Mount Baldo and known as the 'botanical garden of Europe'. 

Those wanting to travel further afield can pre-book the Venice excursion, where you'll go by private boat to St. Mark's Square and be given a brief tour by your guide before enjoying free time in this unique city. It’s a busy day, but well worth considering for the ultimate Italian experience.

Flight Information

Direct flights to Verona airport (VRN) are available from Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Glasgow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle and Southampton and take approximately 2 hours. Transfers to the city centre take approximately 20 minutes.

 

Visa Information

At the current time, British citizens do not require a visa to visit Italy.

Tipping

Whilst tipping isn’t embedded into Italian culture it is always appreciated as an acknowledgement of good service. Nowadays people generally round up a bill in a bar or cafe and leave 5-10% extra on a restaurant bill. Taxi bills are usually also rounded up.
 
On guided tours/excursions it is customary to leave a token of appreciation for the driver and guide.
 
On small group escorted tours, it is customary to leave a token of appreciation the driver and guide at the end of the tour.
