It’s your first full day in Venice and what better way to start your trip than with a walking tour of the city. With a local guide you’ll navigate the bridges and passages of this beautifully unique destination where you’ll get to see the iconic and famous landmarks around the city.

One of the key highlights has to be St. Mark’s square, with the beautifully detailed façade of the Basilica and the clock tower soaring over the vast square where tourists flock in their thousands to see this wonderful city. The Doges Palace sits opposite, its grandeur characterised by its Gothic architecture, it’s a magnificent palace that overlooks the canal. 
The tour lasts an hour and a half leaving you time after to explore on your own. You could head out of the main centre and admire all the beautiful bridges set around the island or stay in St. Mark’s square and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city.

Venice is a City made up of islands each offering unique perspectives and different experiences. Today you get to explore three of the islands surrounding Venice - Murano, Burano and Torcello. They make a change from the busy centre of Venice and each has its own characteristics. 
You’ll begin with a trip to Murano which is famous for its glass factories. The stylised, coloured glass is seen all over Venice and you’ll have the opportunity to see the making process behind it including a glassblowing demonstration. Next you’ll visit Burano which is often described as a mini Venice, its pastel coloured houses sit next to a labyrinth of canals and bridges, its quaint style is what appeals to visitors. The final stop is the small and quiet island of Torcello, with an air of mystery to it, it makes for a great location to wander and admire the small vineyards dotted around the island. 
With time to spare during the day why not amble around the shops selling Murano glass in Venice, the colourful patterns are truly captivating and show the craftsmanship that is still present in this area. 

 

Day 4: Venice, Grand Canal Boat Tour

Today you’re spending the day back in Venice and exploring the city using the main route of transport, the waterways. The Grand Canal works its way through the heart of Venice, lined with beautiful architecture and flurries of gondolas. You’ll travel by boat along it with a guide telling you all about the main sights as you pass through the Grand Canal. The trip lasts only an hour but it’s fantastic to see Venice from the water and it leaves you plenty of time to go to the sights that caught your eye on route.

The Doges Palace is a must see when in Venice. Overlooking the canal, this majestic building positions itself in St. Mark’s square and was once the palace for the Duke and his council. This one hour guided tour is a great opportunity to explore the interior of the building and learn about its history, you’ll see the living quarters and as well as the prison where Casanova was once held.

After a busy few days exploring Venice and its vicinity take the opportunity to enjoy one last day in the city. There is the beautiful Baroque Basillica di Santa Maria della Salute, which sits on the opposite side of the canal to St. Mark’s square. It’s quite a walk to get there so you can admire it from afar or make the journey to see it up close, just make sure you check the opening times if you want to go inside! The most famous bridge in Venice is also a must see – the Rialto bridge. Spanning the width of the Grand Canal and lined with shops it is one of the most unique bridges in Venice.


You could also enjoy a gondola ride around the city (our concierge can arrange this for you), cruise around the narrow passages in the traditional form of transport, it’s an idyllic way to see Venice.

Direct flights to Venice Marco Polo airport (VCE) are available from Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, London City, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton, Manchester, Newcastle and Southend and take approximately 2 hours. Transfers from the airport are by water taxi or water bus and take approximately 40 minutes to reach the centre of Venice.

Direct flights to Venice Treviso airport (TSF) depart from London Stansted, Leeds Bradford, Bristol and East Midlands and take approximately 2 hours.
