Map of Days 2–4: Tuscany

Tuscany is characterised by its rugged landscape, medieval towns and abundance of traditional Italian cuisine, so spend the next few days exploring the best that the region has to offer, by car. Tuscan towns and cities such as Siena, San Gimignano and Florence are steeped in history and culture; and some of Italy’s most spectacular monuments can be found nestled within these gems, including the breathtaking duomo in Siena, and the jaw-dropping medieval towers of San Gimignano’s. A trip to Tuscany wouldn’t be the same without a visit to breathtaking Florence – Tuscany’s Renaissance capital. Florence is best explored on foot; marvel at the famous Brunelleschi Dome, admire Michelangelo's David in the Accademia and peruse the gold jewellery shops around the Ponte Vecchio. With the stunning Boboli Gardens moments from the city centre, and nearby viewpoint of Fiesole easily accessible by car, you’ll find Florence to be the perfect combination of city and country.

The soft sun and rolling hills of the surrounding countryside also produce a wide variety of white and red wines, notably Chianti and Montepulciano. In between visiting the cities and towns, ensure you take the opportunity to stop off at one of the many vineyards and sample some local produce.

Drive across the golden Italian countryside to Aeroporto Marco Polo (approx. 3 hours), drop off your car and take a water taxi to your centrally located hotel. We suggest getting to grips with this enchanting city by booking a serenaded gondola ride through Venice’s atmospheric waterways, before finishing the day with a traditional Venetian meal by the water’s edge.

Today is your first full day in the famous ‘floating city’, so we recommend pre-booking the Walking Tour of Venice excursion to take in the city’s finest delights, including the Golden Basilica, St. Mark’s Clock Tower and the Doge's Palace. Your expert guide will then take you for a stroll down the bustling Mercerie, the city's golden mile of shopping. Make the most of your evening by soaking up the atmosphere in a pavement cafe around the edge of St Mark’s Square.

Today is your beach day. Spend the day at Venice Lido, the largest island of the archipelago and home to a 13 kilometre long beach. During the last week in August and first week of September the Lido plays host to the annual Venice film festival, nut there’s a great atmosphere here throughout much of the summer, providing a welcome chance to relax before your flight home the following day.
