  • Free time to explore the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica
  • Chance to see the Colosseum and Roman Forum
  • Comfortable coach transport from Sorrento included

Get a taster of the Eternal City with this full-day trip to Rome. To make the most of your time there, you’ll head off early, leaving Sorrento by coach between 6.30-7.30am. After a quick rest stop along the way, you’ll arrive in Rome at around midday.

You’ll be led to St. Peter’s Square, where you’ll then have three hours of free time to explore the Vatican and grab some lunch. Head off to the museums and Sistine Chapel, or make a beeline for the basilica, decorated with beautiful frescoes, ornate gilding and marble sculptures. For panoramic views over Rome, climb the steps to the top of the cupola – you’ll take a lift part of the way, then take the 300-odd stairs to the very top (it’s quite a narrow staircase, so avoid it if you’re claustrophobic).

Once you’re finished, the coach will take you across town to another of Rome’s standout sights: the Colosseum. You’ll have an hour’s free time here – just enough to explore the inside of the amphitheatre. On the return journey, you’ll have a brief stop for dinner (included), before arriving back in Sorrento at around 10pm.

Please note that to enter St. Peter’s Basilica, you‘ll need to cover your knees and shoulders.

We say: “This is a great way to get a flavour of Rome. If you climb the cupola at St. Peter’s, buy a postcard and a Vatican City stamp from the small shop, then post it to yourself at the post box just outside. When you get home, you’ll have a lovely souvenir of your visit!” Christina Oliver, Content Editor
