  • Guided tour of the temples and ruins of Paestum
  • Discover artefacts and sculptures at the museum
  • Time to explore Salerno and its beautiful cathedral

Paestum is home to one of Italy’s best collections of Greek temples. Founded by the Greeks in the 6th century BC, the city was dedicated to Poseidon, god of the sea. This full-day excursion includes a guided walk around the temples (which include the Temple of Neptune, one of the best preserved Greek temples in the country) and the ruins of the city itself. You’ll also have the chance to tour the museum, which houses treasures and artefacts discovered during the site’s excavation.

On your way down to the temples, you’ll have the chance to stop off in the bustling city of Salerno. With an hour’s free time, you can stroll its historic streets, go for a walk along the seafront and see the 11th-century cathedral (make sure you’ve got your knees and shoulders covered if you want to go inside).

As you’re driving through the Campania countryside, look out for bufala cattle grazing – they produce one of the region’s most delicious exports, creamy buffalo mozzarella.

We say: “The temples at Paestum are remarkably well preserved and really worth seeing if you’re interested in history. Stopping in Salerno breaks up the journey down there nicely – it’s not particularly touristy, so gives you a real flavour of southern Italian life.” Laura Mason, Product Manager
