Fly to Cagliari, pick up your hire car and make your way to your chosen hotel.

Day 2 - 4: Discover South Sardinia's sands

Map of Day 2 - 4: Discover South Sardinia's sands

Porto Giunco beach provides the perfect first introduction to South Sardinia's beaches, with its long stretch of beautifully white sand. The shallow waters make it great for swimming and watersports too. Chia Beach is another must-see while you're in the south. Its pale sands and turquoise waters feel almost Caribbean, and the backdrop of juniper trees and sand dunes gives it a lovely sheltered feel.

If you can tear yourself away from the beaches, take a short visit to the cosmopolitan city of Cagliari, with its fascinating medieval district, or the archaeological site at Nora. For relaxation, come the close of the day, the coastline beckons you like a sultry siren, inviting you to lie back with a glass of something chilled before succumbing to the tantalising aromas of evening's supper.

Day 5: South Sardinia - North Sardinia

Points of Interest

Make the journey north and check in to your chosen hotel.

As you reach North Sardinia, the coastline becomes more rugged, with rocky inlets and near-deserted coves. The north of the island is also home to one of the island’s most famous coastlines, the Costa Smeralda. Its name translates as ‘Emerald Coast’ – you’ll understand why once you encounter the beautiful blue-green sea.

Day 6: Visit Corsica

Today, journey by ferry to Corsica. The beaches on this little French gem are a real haven for sun-worshippers. Ferries will usually arrive at the pretty clifftop town of Bonifacio and one of our favourite beaches nearby is Rondinara, a crescent of white sand backed by pine trees.

Day 7: Visit Porto Cervo

Points of Interest

Map of Day 7: Visit Porto Cervo

The glamorous town of Porto Cervo lies at the heart of the Costa Smeralda. Spend your day ambling in and out of the designer shops or engage by the harbour in that most pleasant of activities. Alternatively, hop on a boat and explore some of the quiet coves along the coast here. Don’t leave when the sun goes down – Porto Cervo comes alive with exclusive bars and nightclubs in the evenings.

Day 8: Explore Maddalena Islands

Please call one of our Italy experts to discuss your accommodation choices

Points of Interest

Map of Day 8: Explore Maddalena Islands

A visit to Sardinia would not be complete without a trip to the Maddalena Islands. With National Park status, this archipelago is made up of seven large and 55 small islands and will arguably offer the most beautiful beach encounter of your trip. With so many gorgeous coves and pocked-sized bays (often deserted), the best way to make the most of the islands is with a full day’s boat trip.

Day 9: Take a trip to Alghero

The charming city of Alghero is great for a little history fix. There’s a grand 16th-century cathedral at the heart of the city, as well as ancient harbour walls that line the marina. Of course, Alghero is also home to some beautiful beaches – ideal places to put your feet up post-sightseeing.
