After touching down in Rome, transfer to your chosen hotel before heading straight out to explore. The Eternal City looks spectacular at night, so we’d recommend a stroll through the historic centre after dinner to see its fountains and monuments beautifully illuminated.

Ancient Rome & the Colosseum (3 hour excursion)

This afternoon you’ll explore some of Rome’s standout historic sites, including the temples and arches at the Roman Forum and the famous Colosseum. Afterwards, why not head to the lively Trastevere neighbourhood for dinner in an authentic Roman trattoria.

Head for the coast today as you travel from Rome to Sorrento. You'll journey to Naples by train, before heading on to Sorrento by private transfer.

Pompeii & Herculaneum (full day excursion)

You’ll tick off two of Italy’s most fascinating archaeological sites today. Expert guides will give you an insight into ancient Roman life as they lead you around the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, both of which sit in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius.

Spend today exploring Sorrento, or perhaps take a bus or ferry along the coast to pretty Positano and Amalfi. The chic island of Capri is also within day-trip distance.

Paestum & Salerno (full day)

Today, you’ll head south from Sorrento to visit the well-preserved Greek temples at Paestum. The highlight here is the Temple of Neptune, which dates back to the 5th century BC. As well as a guided tour of the site, you’ll have a chance to see Salerno, a bustling city with a beautiful cathedral. 

Day 7: Sorrento - Sicily

The final leg of your journey will take you to Sicily, where you’ll stay in the clifftop town of Taormina or the beach resort of Giardini Naxos. You'll fly to the island from Naples, before a private transfer whisks you to your chosen hotel.

Temples of Agrigento & Piazza Armerina (full day)

It’s an early start today as you head for the town of Agrigento, home to the UNESCO-listed Valley of the Temples. After exploring this fascinating complex of classical Greek temples, you’ll have time for lunch along the seafront before making your way to the Villa Romana del Casale at Piazza Armerina, famed for its extensive Roman mosaics.

Enjoy your last full day in Sicily. Stroll through Taormina’s cobbled streets, browse the shops for a few souvenirs, and be sure to order a glass of Sicilian wine to toast the end of your trip.

Bid farewell to Sicily as you transfer to Catania airport for your flight back to the UK.

The majority of international flights arrive into Rome Fiumicino airport (FCO), which is approximately 45 minutes from the centre of Rome. Direct flights to Fiumicino are available from Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, Leeds, London City, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle and take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes.

Direct flights to Rome Ciampino airport (CIA), which is approximately 30 minutes from the centre of Rome, depart from London Stansted, Edinburgh, Manchester, East Midlands and Glasgow and take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes.
