Map of Day 1: UK - Rome

Today you begin your Italian odyssey. After arriving in Rome and checking in to your centrally located hotel, head to the Piazza Navona – Rome’s grandest square. Packed with entertainers, street sellers and grand palaces, there’s plenty to see and do here. Afterwards, make a wish and throw a coin into the newly-restored Trevi Fountain, and spend the afternoon exploring some of the grandest streets in the city, nearby.

Map of Day 2: Rome

Your first full day in Rome should be spent exploring the biggest sights – especially The Colosseum, which can be seen on a pre-bookable excursion. Enter the Colosseum and imagine the bloody past of the world’s largest amphitheatres, before heading to the Roman Forum to admire the grandeur of the arch of Constantine and climb the Capitoline Hill.

Today we recommend experiencing a pre-booked guided excursion of the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Begin at the Vatican museums, home to one of the most important art collections in the world, be dazzled by the incredible Sistine Chapel, and finish with a tour of the sacred St Peter’s basilica – known as the greatest of all churches.

Today you will be leaving the Eternal City and heading for Sicily. From Rome, catch a flight to Palermo airport (approx. 1 hour 10 minutes) or Catania airport (approx. 1 hour 15 minutes) on the island of Sicily, where picturesque seaside towns nestle alongside the ancient ruins of Greco-Roman Temples. Spend your first day by getting to grips with the area around your resort before finishing the day with an authentic Sicilian meal as the sun sets.

Points of Interest

Map of Days 5-7: Sicily

Sicily is an island with a long history of invasion and conquest from Greeks, Arabs, Romans and Normans, resulting in a lavish mixed heritage ripe for exploration. Depending on where you are staying in Sicily, you can visit the majestic Valley of The Temples in Agrigento, the ancient Greek port of Syracuse, admire the panoramic vistas from the Monte Tauro in Taormina or relax on the beautiful sandy beaches of Cefalu.

Whatever you decide, no stay in Sicily would be complete without a visit to its most famous natural landmark, Mount Etna. Standing at over 3,000 metres, it is Europe's highest active volcano, and can be explored safely on our Mount Etna excursions (See our list of Sicily excursions).
