Enjoy a fly-drive like no other with this 11 night fun-filled itinerary. Immerse yourself in the Apulian lifestyle as you traverse your way across Puglia's diverse terrain, visiting everything from the widely appreciated Gargano National Park to the iconic Trulli houses of Alberobello.

Guests can choose to spend the duration of their trip in a range of hotels across the region, or for a more unique experience, guests can spend their evenings in a mix of Agriturismos / Masserias. (It is not possible to combine an overnight stay in a hotel with an overnight in an agriturismo at any point in the itinerary)

Day 1: Bari / Brindisi - Bari area

Pick up your hire car from the airport, then head into Bari for your first night in Puglia. Stay in either the Hotel Una Regina (or similar) or the Echi Resort (or similar).

Day 2: Bari area - Bari - Trani - Bari area

Spend the morning exploring Bari – follow the maze of alleyways through Bari Vecchia (the old quarter) to the cathedral and the Castel del Monte. Later on, drive up to Trani, a sophisticated seaside town with a lovely marina and old town. Stay for dinner and a glass of Apulian wine. 

Day 3: Bari area - Barletta - Margherita di Savoia - Gargano area

Journey north to the Gargano National Park, stopping along the way at historic Barletta, the salt pans of Margherita di Savoia, and the Roman amphitheatre at Lucera. Stay in either the Hotel Ariae (or similar) or the Agriturismo San Giorgio (or similar).

Days 4 - 5: Gargano area - Vieste - Peschici - Umbra Forest - Gargano area

You’ve got two full days to tour the beautiful area of Gargano. A highlight is a boat trip along the coast from Vieste to Mattinata, stopping off to explore sea caves and enjoy a barbecue in a scenic bay. Other recommendations include a visit to the UNESCO-listed Monte Sant’Angelo and a drive through the Umbra Forest. 

Day 6: Gargano - Venosa - Melfi - Dolomiti - Matera area

It’s arrivederci to Puglia and buongiorno to Basilicata as you cross into this rural region. Travel via the castles of Venosa and Melfi, then arrive in Matera, set on a hilltop above a national park. Stay in either the Hotel Locanda di San Martino (or similar) or the Masseria Fortificata San Francesco (or similar).

Day 7: Matera area - Altamura - Gravina - Matera area

In the morning, head to Altamura for a bread tasting at a local bakery, before you spend the afternoon discovering the cave houses of Gravina in Puglia and Matera.

Today, you could tour the area by car (we can supply a suggested itinerary for you) or on foot with a hike through the national park of Dolomiti Lucane. 

Day 9: Matera - Taranto - Itria Valley - Brindisi area - Ostuni area

Drive east to Puglia’s Valle d’Itria this morning. Visit the baroque town of Martina Franca and explore the whitewashed old towns of Locorotondo and Cisternino. In the afternoon, we’ve included a tour and tasting at a family-run olive oil farm. Stay in either the Hotel Tenuta Monacelle (or similar) or the Masseria Baroni Nuovi (or similar).

Day 10: Ostuni area - Brindisi - Lecce - Otranto - Gallipoli - Ostuni area

Explore the stunning Salento peninsula today, calling in at Lecce (nicknamed ‘Florence of the South’ for its baroque architecture), Otranto and Gallipoli, where we can arrange a wine tasting.

After a morning visit to the caves of Castellana, head for Alberobello, where you’ll find streets lined with Puglia’s famous trulli houses. The highlight here is a wine tasting at a local enoteca, where you’ll sample Apulian wines accompanied by traditional regional specialities.
