Tavernelle forms part of the historic comune of Panicale and boasts a heritage dating back to the 13th century. The town’s two main attractions couldn’t be more different – on one side stands the 500-year-old Shrine of Our Lady of Mongiovino, while at the other side lies the Parco Acquatico Tavernelle – a fun waterpark with a handful of slides and plenty of space to lounge in the sun. There isn’t too much else in the way of sightseeing, but you’ll find a number of towns and villages in the surrounding Umbrian hills.
In less than 30 minutes, you’ll reach the lakeside town of Castiglioni della Lago. Discover the city’s intriguing ‘Rule of Three’ in action – there are three entry gates, three churches and three piazzas set within the ancient centro storico. Equal distance away is Perugia – Umbria’s capital city, and one of Italy’s must-visit destinations. Packed with medieval charm, it makes a great day trip from Tavernelle di Panicale.
