Enjoying one of the most enviable placements on the Viareggio seafront, the Palace Hotel embodies old world elegance and has spacious rooms with a view.
Built at the beginning of the 19th century, Palace Hotel lies on Viareggio’s famous palm fringed promenade. It is also located just a stone’s throw from a long stretch of sandy beach, where guests can enjoy complimentary use of the beach club’s facilities. (deckchairs and 1 umbrella included, extra charge for sunbeds)
If you want to discover the joys of the other nearby Tuscan towns, then simply hop on a train - the local station is just a 15 minute walk away. Top sights include Lucca and Pisa (less than 30 minutes away) and Siena and Florence (both of which can be reached in about 1h30.)
Once you’ve tired of sightseeing, make your way up to the hotel’s roof bar where you can sip a delicious cocktail whilst enjoying at sunset extraordinary views of the imposing Apuan Alps and the twinkling Tyrrhenian Sea.

Tuscany’s miles of golden beach remain one of the country’s best kept secrets. Guests at Palace Hotel are welcome to enjoy the facilities on La Pace beach, just a 2-minute walk away. Spend a day (or more) relaxing in the complimentary deckchairs (sunbeds carry a surcharge). The beach also has a wonderful seawater pool with a graduated shallow end for children and even a jacuzzi.

It is easy to see why Viareggio is nicknamed the ‘Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea’. Set equidistant between La Spezia to the north and Livorno to the south, the town enjoys a prime location on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Surrounded by natural beauty - the snow-capped Apuan Alps form the backdrop for this beach hotel - Viareggio is certainly a pearl in our books.
The town is a great mix of Tuscan tradition and living city. Think splendid 19th-century architecture and a mile-long “Passeggiata”, packed full of gelaterias, caffès, benches and cycle hire stalls for the sporty. But think also market stalls that spill over with seasonal fruit and vegetables (the weekly market at Forte dei Marmi is well worth a visit), fishermen that come in with the local catch every morning and shop keepers that stand and chat in doorways during their quiet moments.
The seaside destination is known throughout the country for its rambunctious carnival, held between the end of January and the beginning of March. If you plan on visiting Viareggio in the summer months, there’s still plenty to do: the Puccini Opera Festival takes place every July and August and brings together opera lovers from all over the world.
