Forte Dei Marmi is one of Tuscany's original beach resorts, offering an immense sweep of sand and a huge array of restaurants and bars. The town also boasts an impressive celebrity heritage, with past and present residents including opera great Andrea Bocelli and fashion designer Giorgio Armani.
The beach is the heart of the town, with watersports on offer, plenty of beach bars and neat rows of colourful sun loungers set outside the various beach clubs. Go further back into the town and you’ll find a weekly market and an interesting art gallery. Restaurants in and around the town usually offer fresh seafood options, plus there are plenty of open-air venues serving drinks alongside sea views.
Forte Dei Marmi is just over half an hour by car from Pisa. Make sure you visit the stunning Piazza dei Miracoli – the home of the world-famous Leaning Tower – but also head into the city’s heart, close to the River Arno, for a more authentic glimpse into Pisan life.
