Isola dei Pescatori

Amid the stunning scenery of Lake Maggiore, the most characteristic of the Borromean Islands: Isola dei Pescatori, is waiting to be explored. Despite its small permanent population this destination is just as appealing as its neighbouring islands, with charming houses, cobbled streets and the beautiful harbour, which gives this island its name: Fisherman’s Island. With a heritage built on fishing, it would be a mistake to miss a lunch time here and numerous restaurants celebrate the daily catch with a delicious range of regional dishes.

Aside the food, this island has a lot to offer in the way of its picturesque sights that can be enjoyed from its cobbled streets and encircling promenade. A trip to the church of San Virrore is also worth a visit, with this humble monument containing origins of an ancient chapel.

Getting there: A local ferry service runs to and from the Island and taxi boats are available from Stesa, Stresda Lido and Baverno. Although boat service is plentiful during the day, restrictions can occur at night. Many restaurants can arrange boat taxis and some have own their own boats for return arrangements.
