Menaggio Holidays

Menaggio is one of Lake Como’s prettiest towns, offering a serene base from which to explore the best that the lake has to offer. Established back in Roman times, the town’s history is today visible only in the remains of crumbling ancient walls that once fortified the town. Much of the town now dates from the 19th century, with rustic terracotta-shaded houses and a bustling little harbour that looks out over Lake Como. George Clooney owns a villa nearby, and the town is a popular place with the rich and glamorous. Enjoy the high life with a gelato by the water, sip a coffee in the town’s atmospheric Piazza Garibaldi or head to the nearby golf club, one of the best in the region. For the ultimate in lake views, make sure you visit the town’s modern lido, which features several large swimming pools, mini golf, and plenty of comfy loungers overlooking the water. Ferries whisk you across the water to the town of Varenna; from there, you can easily carry on to pretty Bellagio.

Tipping

Whilst tipping isn’t embedded into Italian culture it is always appreciated as an acknowledgement of good service. Nowadays people generally round up a bill in a bar or cafe and leave 5-10% extra on a restaurant bill. Taxi bills are usually also rounded up.

On guided tours/excursions it is customary to leave a token of appreciation for the driver and guide.

On small group escorted tours, it is customary to leave a token of appreciation the driver and guide at the end of the tour.

Introduction to languages
