Lake Maggiore

What do you love about Italy?

One of the main reasons I go back to Italy again and again is the people. They are so friendly and will always do everything they can to ensure you have a lovely experience, from the hotel staff to restaurant owners. The food and wine are also firm favourites of mine!

Any ‘hidden gems’ you could recommend?

The beautiful commune of Cernobbio in Lake Como. Cernobbio is full of picture-perfect cobbled streets and paths, lined with boutique shops. Much of Lake Como is dotted with gems but this is certainly one worth a visit.

Which are your favourite destinations?

Verona – I just adore the romantic vibe and the city’s fascinating history. I also love Lake Maggiore; a highlight is the privately owned Borromean Islands, which are stunning. And for a beach destination I’d pick South Sardinia – the beaches in this part of Italy are beautiful.

What’s the most memorable meal you’ve had in Italy?

I had spaghetti Bolognese in Bologna (birthplace of the Bolognese sauce) and it was incredible. The pasta was so fresh and you could tell there was a lot of passion behind the dish.

Describe your favourite memory of a trip to Italy.

The Castel San Pietro in Verona is located on a very high point, on a hill overlooking the city. It’s only reachable via lots of steps – racing my colleagues up to the top is one of my favourite memories. We only got about half way before we were out of breath, but it worth was it for the view you get from the top – breathtaking.

What would your dream multi-centre itinerary be?

My dream multi-centre would be Florence and Liguria. Florence for the city aspect, so I can explore and learn about the history and culture, then Liguria for the beauty and opportunity to rest my feet on the beaches.
