  • Take in the spectacular views from the slopes of Mount Etna
  • Upgrade to the Premium option to travel up to 2,900 metres
  • Free time to explore Taormina and visit its Greek theatre

This must-do excursion will give you time to explore two of Sicily’s treasures – Mount Etna and Taormina. A coach will pick you up bright and early to take you across the island to Taormina. Settled on a cliff top, Taormina is one of Sicily’s prettiest – and most historic – towns. You’ll have around two and a half hours to explore and have a spot of lunch. Sip a cappuccino in the Piazza IX Aprile, browse the chic boutiques, or check out Taormina’s star attraction, its ancient Greek-Roman theatre.

Next up is Mount Etna, Sicily’s most famous landmark. You’ll travel by coach to a height of 1,900 metres, where you’ll be able to enjoy magnificent views. You’ll have another two and a half hours here, so plenty of time to have a wander.

There’s the option to travel even further if you like, to the main crater at a height of 2,900 metres. You’ll get there by cable car and 4x4 minibuses. You can decide on the day if you want to do this (at a cost of around €65), but we would recommend booking in advance as it’s more cost-effective.

We say: “I’d recommend visiting the Greek theatre while in Taormina. Not only is the theatre itself fantastic, but you also get great views across to Mount Etna, where you’ll be heading to next.” Melissa Chisholm, Italy Expert
