Agrigento’s cathedral is dedicated to Saint Gerland, and was built by Normans in the 11th century. Since then, extensions to the church took place in the 13th and 14th centuries, and a baroque style was added in the 17th century. The large bell tower boasts an ornate balcony, whilst inside is a magnificent wooden ceiling reminiscent of the medieval style, with baroque decorations and a shrine dedicated to San Gerlando.
