Excursion Information: The excursions below can only be booked through Marcella, your Sardinia Concierge.

Archaeological Sardinia: The Wonders of Barumini: Sardinia is rich in archaeology and the stone built Nuraghi are unique to the island. Visit the impressive Nuraghic fortress of Barumini which dates back to 1500 BC. It is one of the largest and most perfect megalithic buildings in Europe and became a UNESCO site in 2000. Today more than 7000 Nuraghi are dotted around Sardinia and these are just the ones, which have been discovered! The Nuraghic culture dates back as far as 1500 BC and Barumini is the largest and oldest settlement. The origins of this settlement are ambiguous though it could possibly have been a capital city.
The itinerary takes us west of Cagliari past the lagoons with their ever present Flamingos and through villages, where murals are a well established tradition and decorate the walls of the streets.

Entrance fees - Barumini - Approx 10 euros

Operates - Monday

Excursion is run by minibus with a maximum of 8 people (subject to minimum numbers)

Cagliari & Nora: Built up on the hills and surrounded by lagoons and salt pans, Cagliari has an architectural style that ranges from Roman to Medieval due to its colourful past and various dominations. The remains of the Roman city include the amphitheatre whilst the Basilica of San Saturno is the oldest church in Sardinia. The old and lively Marina quarter is full of narrow cobbled lanes lined with a succession of quaint restaurants and shops. You will have some free time to enjoy the city centre and have some lunch and enjoy the views from the Bastion Remy in the heart of Cagliari.
In the afternoon we head back towards the coast to the Roman ruins of Nora. This ancient city situated at the end of a promontory formed a perfect natural harbour, offering a safe and sheltered anchorage to the ancient ships of Mediterranean traders. In the 6th Century BC this was the largest urban settlement on the island and in 238 BC the Romans made it the provincial capital for the whole of Sardinia. The site includes a temple and a theatre, although the most interesting parts are the mosaics which remain from the main villa, and the four sets of baths, which highlight its importance.

Entrance fees - Nora - Approx 7.50 euros

The Beauty of South Sardinia, Coastline & Monuments: Visit the majestic necropolis of Montessu that extends over 1 km across a natural amphitheatre, where prehistoric tombs are carved into the rock.
The Costa del Sud is divided by inlets and endless promontories with ever changing panoramic views. The tombs of Montessu are well known for their majestic appearance and position. The south of the island is the first and largest mining region in Italy: its many old mining villages form the Parco geominerario della Sardegna and are recognised by UNESCO. This day out explores the lesser known area of the Sulcis and includes a visit to one of the mines, weather permitting.
