Amalfi sits in the ravine of the Valle dei Mulini. Its churches, towers and arcaded houses are grouped together with attractive irregularity, rising above a small harbour. The town's Duomo dominates a long flight of steps and embraces a colourful piazza around which, and stretching to its seafront, narrow streets are interspersed with tempting pasta and pizza restaurants and lively cafes.

Best Time To Go

Like many coastal towns in Italy, Amalfi tends to be busiest during July and August, when you'll find tourists as well as Italians enjoying the hot weather and summer festivals that take place. A good time to go is May - June and September - October when you can enjoy fewer crowds and good weather. Although Amalfi is mostly a summer destination, visitors during the winter can still enjoy quite mild temperatures and normally dry weather. However not all restaurants and shops remain open out of season.

Pompeii & Vesuvius

Destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD, Pompeii lay buried below lava and ash for hundreds of years before it was discovered, perfectly preserved, in 1784. The history of this ancient Roman town, as brought to life by our professional guide, is fascinating as you walk in the footsteps of the Pompeians. There is also a chance to visit the destroyer itself, the only active volcano on mainland Europe; you can even walk up to the edge of the crater. An unforgettable experience. Don't forget your camera!

Please Note: During low season, warm clothing may be required for Vesuvius. Closed shoes or trainers recommended.

Compulsory entrance fees: Pompeii 11 euros. Vesuvius 10 euros.

Operates: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday(subject to minimum numbers)

Departure: Approx. 8am
Duration: Full Day
From: £37

Herculaneum & Sorrento

Herculaneum was the second city to be destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. It is said that Herculaneum is better preserved than Pompeii, as it was sealed by lava whereas Pompeii was buried mainly in ash. You will find excellent examples of Roman richness in the unspoiled mosaic tiled floors and frescoed villas, no longer seen in Pompeii. The local guide will animate the story of this wealthy, ancient Roman summer resort.

Combine Herculaneum with the small town of Sorrento. Wonderfully located over white cliffs Sorrento offers a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples. For years visitors from all over the world have been attracted to Sorrento, think breathtaking sunsets, fragrances of orange and lemon gardens. Take time to explore the old cobbled streets and maybe try the local tipple of Limoncello!

Compulsory entrance fees: Herculaneum 11 euros.

Departure: Approx. 8am
Duration: Full Day
From: £37

There's enough time for a wander at your leisure through the exclusive shopping lanes packed with designer labels, or a breathtaking ride on the chairlift before the homeward journey.

Optional extras/entrance fees (approx.): Caesar Augustus gardens 1 euro. Blue Grotto 23 euros. Boat trip 15 euros. Villa San Michele 6 euros. Chairlift 10 euros.

Paestum Temples

The town of Paestum was founded by the Greeks around 60 B.C. Its name deriving from Poseidon (the god of the sea) to whom it was dedicated. It was during this period that the Temple of Poseidon and the Temple of Ceres were built.

Today the Temples and ruins are considered to be the finest of their kind. The nearby museum not only contains many fine sculptures which were excavated from the site but also the tomb paintings, one of which is the so-called "Tomb of the Diver", a graceful and expressively naturalistic piece of work, the only existing example of Greek wall painting left in Italy.

Compulsory entrance fees: Paestum Temples 10 euros. Museum 10 euros.

Operates: Wednesday (subject to minimum numbers)

Pompeii Express

Here's your chance to experience life over 2,000 years ago. On a gentle, access-all-areas, walking tour of Pompeii our professional guide will give detailed descriptions of the ancient Romans, their lifestyles, their day to day habits and activities. The excavations are brought to life for you, illustrating just how it was in 79AD.

Cruise to Positano

Discover the Amalfi Coast from the sea. A wonderful guided cruise from Maiori to Positano, passing Atrani, Amalfi and Praiano.

There is an optional stop to the famous Emerald Grotto: discovered in 1932, the once dry grotto, later invaded by the sea due to earth movements, owes its name to the unusual colour of the water reflecting the light that penetrates off the rocks. The atmosphere, dominated by brilliant green and blue, is made even more fascinating by thin stalactites and above all by the spectacular formations of stalagmites that emerge from the sea and join with the roof.

Landing in Positano, the town famous for its whitewashed cubes of houses, famous for its cultural events and for the exclusive fashion sold in delightful little boutiques. There is free time for a walk through the beautiful alleys or to do an exclusive shop (2 hour approx.)

Optional entrance fees: Emerald Grotto 5 euros.

Operates: Saturday (subject to minimum numbers)
Departure: Approx. 2pm
Duration: Half Day
From: £35
