Lake Orta Hotels & Holidays
About Lake Orta
Bordered by a wealth of Romanesque and Baroque treasures, Lake Orta is situated west of Lake Maggiore. The beauty of Lake Orta lies in its tranquillity: visitors can stroll down the cobbled streets of Orta San Giulio and enjoy leisurely boat rides to the enchanting Island of San Giulio. A memorable Alpine backdrop that includes Sacro Monte frames this stunning lake, which used to be called Cusius.
Orta San Giulio
The town overlooks the delightful island of San Giulio and is situated on the western edge of a broad peninsula which slowly climbs in an easterly direction towards its highest point and the chapels of Sacro Monte. In the centre of Orta San Giulio is Piazza Motta which is surrounded by houses and porticoes, hotels, restaurants and bars.
Pettenasco is a charming hamlet consisting of medieval houses, small beaches and a pretty harbour. The Roman presence in the area is evident by the discovery of tombs from this period. There is an abundance of superb eateries where a bad meal is hard to find.
