Italian Countryside Holidays

Think of the Italian countryside and you think of the rolling hills of Tuscany, lined with avenues of cypress trees, streaked with vineyards, dotted with hilltop villages. The combination of history, culture, architecture, cuisine and scenic beauty is hard to beat anywhere in the world, and gives the region a spiritual attraction that’s simply magnetic. The stunning landscape and the unhurried rural lifestyle have barely changed in over four hundred years and are the epitome of Tuscany holidays.

So that you can get the most out of your holiday to Tuscany, our programme gives you flexibility to choose either a relaxing holiday in one of our hotels or villas, or the adventure of a fly-drive holiday, where you can stay a few nights in several different hotels. But there’s more to the Italian countryside than Tuscany alone. Citalia’s countryside collection, also featuring Umbria and Piemonte, offer the perfect ingredients for a unique and peaceful retreat.

Piemonte

This picturesque region remains a haven of tranquillity with its undulating hills striped with vineyards, where you can meander among the vines and sip wine in castle cellars. Famous for it's white truffles, hazelnuts chocolates and vintages such as Barberesco, Barolo and sparkling Asti, Piemonte is a gourmet's delight and an area where the enjoyment of the simple pleasures in life is encouraged with an abundance of fresh produce and artisan traditions.

Tuscany

The most famous Italian countryside destination is Tuscany with its rows of cypress trees breaking blue skies on rolling hilltops, olive groves and grapevines, little medieval hill towns gazing down upon a country that has been carefully cultivated since the time of the Romans. A region not only infamous for its iconic landscape, but equally for lip-smacking cuisine and stirring wines.

Umbria

Known as "the green heart of Italy", every inch of Umbria is ancient, a region that has retained many of Italy's old traditions of hand-made pasta and unlocked front doors. Come Spring an explosion of yellow occurs from the sunflowers harvested to make cooking oil. Medieval towns cap the surrounding hills that eventually flatten out into lush valleys along the River Tiber.
