My name is Luisa, and I’m based in Sicily. I also look after Calabria.
I’ve worked in Sicily for the last 15 years, and I know quite a lot of it! I’m actually from the north; Cremona is my city, it’s next to Milan and Lake Garda, but I love the sea so that’s why I’m in Sicily. I’ve worked for Citalia for altogether 17 years.
I’m based in Taormina. In Taormina, I’d recommend a walk to the beach, the beautiful Isola Bella, a natural bay. It’s half an hour walk from the city.
You’re right in the middle of the east coast of Sicily, so Mount Etna can be reached within one hour, and Syracuse in one and a half hours. If you are into archaeology, Syracuse is a Greek colony, with a beautiful Greek theatre – I can arrange an excursion to show you the sights.
You must try granita in Sicily. You can try it everywhere in Italy, but not like the one you can have in Sicily! It’s like an ice cream, but it’s crushed ice with flavourings. Describing it is not really appealing but you have to taste it – it’s really good! My favourite flavours are coffee and almond.
